Am I going to receive an application/ballot automatically in the mail?
To receive an absentee ballot, you must request a ballot. You can do so by applying through NY State’s online absentee portal. You can find the link at the top of this page in the red banner.
What reason for requesting an absentee ballot should I choose if I am requesting the ballot because of the Pandemic?
If you are requesting a ballot because of the Pandemic, you would choose “temporary illness or physical disability”.
If I am requesting a ballot for the “November Election/Presidential Election” which election am I applying for?
The next election to occur is the General Election on November 3, 2020.
What options do I have to return my absentee ballot?
You can return your ballot in the pre-addressed return envelope, drop it off in person at the Board of Elections during office hours, or at any of our pollsites during voting hours. There will not be drop boxes through out Dutchess County.
Where do I mail my absentee ballot application?
Your form should be mailed to the Dutchess County Board of Elections, 47 Cannon St., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
When will I be receiving my absentee ballot I applied for?
The first mailing of absentee ballots will be mailed out the beginning of October.
Which Early Voting pollsite do I vote at?
A voter can go to any of the 5 Super Sites during Early Voting. A voter is not designated to a specific pollsite during Early Voting. You do not need to make an appointment or sign up for Early Voting.
Can I Still Vote in Person if I Request an Absentee Ballot?
Even if you request or cast and return an absentee ballot, you may still go to the polls and vote in person. The Election Law recognizes that plans change. The Board of Elections is required to check the poll book before canvassing any absentee ballot. If the voter comes to the poll site, on Election Day or during early voting and votes in person, the absentee ballot is set aside and not counted.
